During the last 200 years Sacromonte, a neighborhood of Granada, has been the cradle of Flamenco and an international reference of cultural tourism. It has given birth to many of the best artists and it is a must for the travellers that visit their Cuevas (Caves) to enjoy their Zambras, the quintessential show of Flamenco at the Sacromonte neighbourhood.



Until 1963, 4.000 gypsies lived in this neighborhood, all of them had a direct connection with Flamenco and were a permanent school to new generations which learnt from the elders to sing, dance and play music. Flamenco was the soul of Sacromonte. Not only as a cultural expression but also as a livelihood. It was their art and also a job that used to be inherited from father to son.



In 1963, after the floods and the evacuation of all residents of the neighborhood, gypsies were dispersed and lost that original way of transmitting their culture and music. Families' organization cracks creating a wound which still affects the conservation of Sacromonte gypsy traditions.



Curro Albaicín is an emblematic figure in Granada. He has dedicated his life to Flamenco and received many honours for it. Born in the Sacromonte, endure the floods when he was 14 and for the last 30 years has tried to preserve the memory of that neighbourhood deeply damaged by the evacuation of its inhabitants. He has written three compilation books of all the artists who lived and died in the neighbourhood with the intention of preserving the tradition of their songs and dances. He will be our guide and our point of view. He will take us through his memory, the memory of other artists of his generation and the collective memory of a neighbourhood that fears his roots will fall into oblivion.



Through the elders of the tribe, our documentary will delve into the microculture and the evolution of a place that has been famous in the world thanks of visitors like Debusy, Falla, Clinton, Ingrid Bergman, Michelle Obama or Ava Gardner, with the clear objective of preserving the memory of a generation of artists who belong to an ethnic minority and from a low social class who have survived through their music during the most difficult times in the past 40 years Spanish history.



We will create a dialogue between the Young Flamenco Artist and the elders. A dialogue between two Sacromonte generations.



Flamenco is the Spanish most international cultural product while at the same time is the most local way of expression. We can not allow losing the wisdom of the elders; we all must celebrate and listen to The wise of the tribe.

Naseer Shamma (Arabic: نصير شمه‎) is a renowned Iraqi musician and oud player.
He was born in 1963 in Kut, a city on the Tigris River. He began studying the oud at the age of 12 in Baghdad, following in the footsteps of Jamil and Munir Bashir. He received his diploma from the Baghdad Academy of Music in 1987. He began to teach oud after three years at the academy, as well as continuing his own studies. Shamma has composed music for films, plays and television.

Olla de San Anton, paso a paso, Y... Lista para comer!! Esta es nuestra olla de san Antón, con su remojón granadino, su pringá, vino de Monachil, encurtidos y uno de nuestros postres (a elegir). Olla de San Anton, 10€ por comensal ( si te quedas con hambre se puede repetir). San Antón La festividad de San Antón, patrón de Monachil, se celebra el 17 de enero en el pueblo con una fiesta en clara consonancia con el carácter serrano, rural y ganadero del municipio. La fiesta culmina con la degustación de la popular Olla de San Antón entre todos los asistentes. Esta fiesta tradicional, de origen antaño, surgió como una forma de protegerse de las desfavorables condiciones climáticas propias del mes de enero. Los componentes típicos de esta olla son: arroz, habas secas, garbanzos, careta, orejas, manos de cerdo, morcilla, tocino, patas, huesos de espinazo, hinojos, acelgas, etc, suponiendo un rico aporte calórico. Olla de San Antón En sus orígenes, la Olla se hacía con los aportes que generosamente ofrecían los habitantes del pueblo. Actualmente es el Ayuntamiento quien se encarga de su elaboración. Esta festividad es siempre muy concurrida por cientos de visitantes que vienen a degustar la Olla y pasar un día entre los maravillosos parajes naturales que nos rodean. No podemos olvidar la procesión del Santo. El día termina con una divertida verbena popular amenizada por una orquesta. Cientos de visitantes concurren en estos días a Monachil para disfrutar de estas fiestas típicas y arraigadas en el municipio.
